DEBORAH RODMAN, LMFT #148776

I approach therapy as a process of understanding ourselves and our impact on others in a deeper and more honest way. Through this process we uncover what automatic and problematic thoughts we have and how they influence our behaviors.  We also work to understand our behavior patterns in relationships, where they come from and how we make positive changes.  Therapy offers us a way to identify, name and communicate our feelings so we may better understand ourselves and be better understood in the world.  Developing a stronger sense of self-acceptance and self-compassion is the fundamental work in my practice regardless of the issues brought in or the desired goals.

I gained my education and training at University of San Francisco, Petaluma City Schools, Petaluma People Services Center and Kaiser Permanente.  I also completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and meditation practices that I incorporate in my work with clients.  I draw from attachment-based therapies such as Emotionally Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems.  I use a family systems approach, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as part of all my work whether I am seeing individuals, couples or families.

Areas of Concentration

Depression & Anxiety

I work in a variety of modalities and collaborate with medical professionals to address the unique symptoms of anxiety and mood disturbance that clients experience. There are many tools and interventions today that can be utilized for even the most treatment-resistant depressions. With patience and perseverance, clients build life practices that help them find purpose and meaning in life.

Couples & Family

I bring attachment and family systems theories to the complexities of family life and romantic relationships.  I am LGBTQ-friendly and have experience in a variety of family and relationship structures.

Grief & Life Transitions

Much of my therapeutic work is with clients dealing with losses of all kinds and in major life transitions. Using a variety of gentle methods and supports, clients find their way through grief and loss and become open to the possibilities of life once more.
